"Having listened to some breeders of rare species of birds/poultry, they say that when you foster a bird to a different species parent, the ensuing chicks become bonded to the foster parents species and will not recognise their own, thus making them usless for a future breeding programe. Do any of you find any truth in this theory when you foster a different species to a Ringneck and then try to breed of the foster chick later on to their own species?" [Robert]
- I just hatched the first set of chicks from my Wild Type Tufted Pr, they seem healthy and doing well. My other pair are sitting on Socorro eggs right now. Most of my Ringnecks pull Foster duty for the Socorros. [Jeff]
- I have a pair of Diamond doves fostering a cape as we speak, all of my others are parent raised, they need heat in the winter.
- My Luzon's Bleeding Heart under the Ringneck foster has pinfeathers at 7 days old and eyes open couple of days ago. Unfortunately the RN baby died and the Luzon's crop is full, heating pad in the nest is keeping him warm, RN fosters
not brooding at night.
