Indoor Cages

These examples
will be of cages used mainly for "Pet" Diamond Doves.
Those birds
kept mainly indoors, in attractive cages, incorporated into normal
living space and their owners routines.
This converted antique armour
is one of my favorite indoor cages. Measuring ~6' tall x 2.5'
wide x 16" deep. We built an insert we could slip in from
the back, using fine woods, minature brass chicken wire, plexiglass
and plant lights on timer. It fits well in our homes entry hall,
by the front door, allowing the cooing song to travel back the
first floor as well as up the main staircase all three floors.
For parties or other disrupting activities, the front door can
be closed, sheilding the birds from the disturbance. At present
it is home to a very white Yellow White Tail hen paired with
a Silver White Tail male. This pair raises very white hens, and
once so far a Snow White.

This size and style of cage
is quite commonly used for a single pair of Diamond Doves. Often
refered to as a "Cockatiel" cage, it usually measures
~24" wide x 24" deep x 36" tall. This is usually
adaquit for a single pair and a few young, though the young will
need to be moved out when they are old enough to interfere with
subsaquent breedings of the older pair. The owner of this cage
quickly graduated to the next example.
This indoor "flight"
cage is much roomier, allowing for more exercise and easier territory
establishment by the doves. It measures ~4' tall x 3' wide x
20" deep.

Usually housing
one pair per cage, often more than one cage per area.
This welded wire cage is
one of my favorites for breeding pairs of Diamond Doves. I presently
have a wall of these stacked three high and four cages wide.
They measure ~18" tall x 18" deep x 30" wide.
They were made for me by Country
Boy Cages. I had them modify a
cage they offered and prepare it as a tear-down to help with
shipping. It is a Great cage and very inexpensive. I highly recommend
paying them a visit. To better suit Diamond Doves I had them:
Remove the wire bottom above the pan, leaving the pan as the
floor. Extend the front of the pan to fill in any gap. Add two
18" dowel perches, I put one to the right and low, the other
higher to the left. This encourages exercise. I place the nest
in the rear, left corner, level with the perch and hide it with
greens.

with artificial lighting from behind.
