Quail Flight
(Click on the BLUE
framed pictures to view them enlarged.)
This grouping
of pens held Button quail, Bob White quail, a pair of Golden
pheasants and a pair of French Red-legs. A long lower pen stretches
along the back, behind the taller section seen above. The lower
box to the left of the taller flight is covered in plastic for
winter warmth. The lower section along the back has lots of ground
cover and evergreen growth.
Two views of
the "wintering box", this is covered in plastic and
stuffed in straw for a greenhouse effect during the colds of
winter. Even Diamonds have been seen ducking down into this box
for the warmth.
I thought the
watering tube shown above was rather interesting. This allowed
for the daily watering without opening a door or disturbing the
birds. The tube is rigid and allowed for a strong enough stream
from a hose to provide some clean out to the container. The door
was opened and the container removed for better cleaning as needed.
Some of the
Silver Button quail in the long lower pen. They had pleanty of
room to roam freely and scrounge about. I was told they often
incubated their own eggs in this flight.
Other quail
in this complex are the Bob Whites seen above. They loved darting
in and out of the evergreens and brush.
