Complex of
Flights and Cages
"This page
will show a variety of outdoor cages and flights belonging to
a good friend of mine."
In the picture
above, the main structure is a row of flights with their right
side closest to us, their backs to the right. Due to the angle
of the yard, the longest flight is closest to us. A back, covered
section runs the length of the flights. The feeding platforms
are in the covered area. There are also various perches and nests
located in the top of the covered area. On the far left is a
long covered isle or Man-Trap running along the fronts of the
flights. Between the Man-Trap and the Covered backs are open
wire and planted flights. The longest flight is about 30' overall,
the shortest about 12'.
Winterized Flights
These two views show the covered
Man-Trap isle along the fronts of the flights. This wire is covered
in heavy plastic to shield the birds from the winter winds, see
a picture at the link above. The smaller cages at the left of
the pictures are Quail cages. The open wire fronts are visible
to the left. The Closed backs of the Quail cages back up against
the Man-Trap and are accessed safely from there.
This outdoor breeding
house is very well designed! It has 12 units within it for a
breeding pair of Diamond Doves (or other small species) each.
Facing the morning sun, each unit gets great sunlight to benefit
the birds with the hot afternoon sun warming the top and back
of the house. By closing the wire door behind you, you eliminate
the possibility of birds getting loose. View A Close-up
Detail showing the
individual unit fronts of the breeding house. The single unit
front is removable, smaller doors provide daily access to food
and water containers and birds if needed. Ringnecks can be wintered
in this setup quite well.
These two lower
units were designed and built to hold younger Pheasant, Quail
and Partridges after they were moved from the brooders. A plastic
wire mesh is stretched tight about 6" down from the ceiling.
This reduces scalping and loss of birds from the quick flights
of being startled.
